Welcome to Pokénronpa!

One moment, Aurin is just a Riolu enjoying a moment of peace in the woods. The next, he is a Lucario waking up in someone's house with no memory of how he got there or how he evolved.

He discovers he is one of sixteen Pokémon kidnapped under similar conditions, and everyone, Aurin included, is shiny. Aurin fears for the worst: Had a shiny hunting trainer gotten a hold of them?

The truth, he learns, is far worse.

Aurin and co. learn that they have been trapped, and the only way of escape is to get away with murder. Should they kill one of their fellow shiny Pokémon without getting discovered, then and ONLY then do they get the right to escape from the killing game. Meanwhile, if the remaining Pokémon fail to catch the culprit, they face execution.

There's nothing Aurin wants to do less than play the killing game, but he seems to have little choice in alternatives. As time lengthens with no clues and enticing motives poured on, how can these sixteen shinies avoid the temptation of murder to finally get the freedom they've been seeking?

Pokénronpa is FREE!

This is an independent project that is in progress. As of now, only the prologue is ready to play. What you see here is a solo project that I've been working on alone for the last year. I suspect that the full project is many years from full completion, but I'm dedicated to releasing updates chapter by chapter so you can follow along the game's progress. Each update will be FREE to play, as will the full game when it's ready. Donations are always appreciated, but NEVER expected. I'd be surprised if I ever made a single dollar off of this game.

Do I need to know anything about Danganronpa or Pokémon to play?

  • For Danganronpa, absolutely not! The structure of the killing game is explained to you in-game, and the game will guide you along how to play as you go. There will be a few references to Danganronpa, but none that will affect a player's ability to figure out a case. Consider them easter eggs!
  • For Pokémon... I mean, it would certainly be helpful! The cases will often utilize the Pokémon universe and logic to solve a murder. Knowing your type matchups, and the general gimmick of the cast's species will be a big part of the story. However, no actual Pokémon battles will be included, and the game will give you plenty of reminders to guide you along, so if you know nothing going in, you should probably still be fine. That said, I'd recommend you at least know SOME Pokémon before trying this game.

Follow the game's progress

If you want to stay informed as to how the project is progressing, there are several ways to stay informed.

The first is to join the Patreon.  I'll be posting any big updates of the game's progress over there. It'll likely be my primary resource for updates. I've added a few tiers of rewards in case you're interested in supporting the project, so feel free to check those out. There's no obligation of course! It's all extra content.

The second is to follow the YouTube channel, where I'll be posting video updates and community posts.

The third is right here on itch.io! I'll make sure to post any updates here, and I believe you get emailed about it as well if you've donated.

Finally, there's my personal socials. I'm primarily on BlueSky, but I'll be posting to Twitter any general updates as well.
